This year marks the 150th anniversary of the death of Hans Christian Andersen, the father of the modern fairy tale. To mark the occasion, the Bonhams auction house in New York is offering first editions, illustrations and autographs in an online auction scheduled to run until April 29. Also included are miniature pieces of furniture that Andersen decorated with handmade cut-outs. Illustrations by Karl Lagerfeld for the fairy tale The Emperor’s New Clothes provide a link to modernity. All lots come from the collection of the well-known collector and antiquarian Justin G. Schiller.
