Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum Germany : From times past – A Kreuzberg postcard collection

The FHXB Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum in Berlin is showing the exhibition FROM TIMES PAST – A KREUZBERG POSTCARD COLLECTION until 11 May 2025. In 2023, the museum received a collection of over 5,600 postcards from the estate of Peter Plewka with motifs from Kreuzberg from around 1890 to 1945, including streets, squares, businesses and scenes of everyday life. In addition to visiting the exhibition on site, it is also possible to view the entire collection online (the selection menu is in the top right-hand corner) and to open it up according to your own ideas using any input. The exhibits are illustrated with front and back and provided with detailed annotations. Related digital copies can be accessed via keywords. The depth of information achieved here is impressive and serves as a model for other projects of this kind. Separate overviews with accompanying text are also provided for individual topics such as National Socialism. The exhibition was created as part of a project funded by digiS (Forschungs- und Kompetenzzentrum Digitalisierung Berlin), in which the FHXB Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum digitised the entire collection, indexed it and made it digitally accessible. The digital application was created in cooperation with the Centre for Contemporary History (ZZF).

The article in the Berliner Zeitung from 15 October 2024 provides information about the collector and donor Peter Plewka.
