Museum Georg Schäfer Schweinfurt : Meggendorfer Pop-up

english version see below

The Museum Georg Schäfer in Schweinfurt is exhibiting works by the artist in its POP UP Meggendorfer – Family and Children’s Exhibition from May 8 to August 1, 2021. In the announcement it says: “Manege frei! – In the fold-out circus. Or would you prefer a beautiful doll’s house? In three easy steps it stands three-dimensionally in front of its owner. The colorful world of pictures and games of Lothar Meggendorfer (1847-1925) is the starting point for a special exhibition at the Museum Georg Schäfer, which relies even more than usual on participation. … On the one hand, the exhibition shows original drawings and designs by Meggendorfer, including a parade picture almost four meters long, from the graphic collection of the Museum Georg Schäfer. On the other hand, children and young people can actively participate: Books by Meggendorfer as reprints can be tried out. In a circus world, there is, among other things, a shadow theater, 3-D peek-a-boo boxes, a photo wall, circus challenges, and painting and crafting opportunities, e.g., for making one’s own “pop-up book.”

Among them is a gem for the Meggendorf connoisseur, a small design work – presumably intended for advertising purposes – showing a moving Bacchus (see pictures above) . It is not known whether the design was executed.
