Das in Kooperation mit dem Leo Baeck Institute in Jerusalem, dem Leo Baeck Institute London und den Freunden und Förderern des Leo Baeck Instituts e.V. betriebene Projekt ‘Library of Lost Books’ beleuchtet die Geschichte der Bibliothek der von 1872 – 1942 in Berlin ansässigen Hochschule für die Wissenschaft des Judentums. Die hierzu aufgesetzte website in deutscher und englischer Sprache ist ebenso hoch informativ und ansprechend gestaltet wie nutzerfreundlich mit vielen Bildern und begleitendem Ton. Im Blick stehen der Aufbau und die Strukturen dieser Einrichtung, ihre Nutzer, die Auflösung durch die Nationalsozialisten und die Zerstreuung ihres Bestandes. Als Citizen-Science-Projekt sind Bürger zur Mitwirkung eingeladen bei der Suche nach NS-Raubgut zu helfen und die gefundenen Bücher kollaborativ in einer dynamischen Karte zu verzeichnen. Man sollte sich für die Seite etwas Zeit nehmen, es lohnt sich!

The ‘Library of Lost Books’ project, run in cooperation with the Leo Baeck Institute in Jerusalem, the Leo Baeck Institute London and the Friends and Sponsors of the Leo Baeck Institute e.V., sheds light on the history of the library of the Hochschule für die Wissenschaft des Judentums (College for the Science of Judaism) which was based in Berlin from 1872 to 1942. The website is highly informative and attractively designed. It focuses on the organization and structures of this institution, its users, its dissolution by the National Socialists and the dispersal of its holdings. As a citizen science project everyone is citizens are invited to help in the search for Nazi-looted property and to collaboratively record the books found on a dynamic map. You should take some time to visit the site, it’s worth it!
